Vertical Entertainment and film financier Three Point Capital have a deal that’s intended to result in the release of eight to ten theatrical films per year, and the first film to come out of this deal is the psychological thriller Abandoned, starring Emma Roberts (American Horror Story). Abandoned will be receiving a theatrical release on June 17th, with a digital and VOD release to follow on June 24th. In anticipation of those release dates, a trailer for the film has been released online and you can check it out in the embed above.
Spencer Squire made his feature directorial debut with Abandoned, working from a screenplay by Deep Blue Sea 2 writers Erik Patterson and Jessica Scott. The film follows
the sharply intense lives of Sara, her husband Alex, and their infant son as they move into a remote farmhouse, which harbors a dark, tragic history. As their home’s past is revealed, the mother’s fragility escalates to a state of psychosis that jeopardizes her own safety and that of her newborn son.
If there’s one thing horror movies have taught us for certain, it’s that nothing good comes out of moving into a new place.
Roberts plays Sara, with John Gallagher Jr. (10 Cloverfield Lane) as Alex. Michael Shannon (The Shape of Water), Paul Schneider (Parks and Recreation), Kate Arrington (Night’s End), Addy Miller (The Walking Dead), Paul Dillon (Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery), Justin Matthew Smith (The Righteous Gemstones), and newcomer Paxton Pope are also in the cast.
Abandoned sports a running time of 102 minutes and has been rated PG-13 for terror, some violent content, thematic material, and brief strong language.
